President Trump is not known for his campaigning on the environment. He infamously pulled the US out of the international Paris agreement on tackling climate change last year. He’s also promised to revive coal-fired energy plants and protect mining jobs.
Contrast that with the latest pronouncement from the European Union, which says it’s aiming to become the first major economy to go “climate neutral” by 2050. Under the plan, greenhouse gas emissions after that date would have to be buried underground or offset by planting trees.
World Business Report asked one of our regular contributors, the US economist Irwin Stelzer, how much of a priority he thought climate change was right now for his fellow Americans.
